Hi, my name is Heather, and I have never done anything like this before but I thought after I have gastric bypass this would be a great way to get out document my progress. I plan on posting at least once a week on my weigh in day, and write about my successes and challenges for the week.
While I am very nervous for this surgery I am equally as excited. I have been over weight for the last 8-9 years, but I grew up with a healthy weight, and didn't start gaining weight until I was in college and ate basically at a buffet 3 meals a day for years. I have tried many things over the years to lose weight including weight watchers, dieting, exercise, and even working out with a trainer for years. I know that this surgery will be a major change for me not only physically, but mentally as I adjust to the change in eating habits.
I am 8 days away from my surgery and super excited. Currently, I am going through my liver reduction diet of protein shakes, protein bars, and one high protein, low fat, zero carb meal a day. It was difficult when I started, but I quickly started losing a pound a day and I found it much easier to follow as I saw results. Today I am down 10 lbs . Tomorrow I meet with my anesthesiologist, and this will be last doctors appointment before the surgery as well as the last day I can eat anything before the surgery. I will begin a protein only shake diet for the last 7 days.
In preparation for my surgery and the changes in eating habits, I started eating with chopsticks at the beginning of December. This was very helpful in eating slower, and starting to listen to my body as to when I'm full. Today, I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and bought little desert shot glasses (2 ounces) and tiny spoons for after surgery when I can only eat 2 ounces at a time.
